After talking about it Saturday morning, I had to make a roast chicken this weekend. I did a lemon zest/thyme/garlic/olive oil/salt/pepper rub on the outside, and stuffed it with lemons, onions, garlic and more thyme. Simple comfort food, but it made the house smell great, and tasted good too.
And since I appear to be completely incapable of making something without taking pictures, here they are:
I was supposed to be eating leftovers for dinner tonight, but instead, while running errands, I ended up with this instead:
Oh well, there's always lunch tomorrow for those leftovers...Dinner at Maverick last night was super yummy. They're part of the whole upscale american soul food thing going on here now. They print up the menus nightly, but most of the things we had are on the menu online. It was all good, but the high points have got to be the duck and the coleslaw. The staff was excellent and very knowledgeable.
I've been exploring the (mostly chain) restaurants of Southpoint. Started the week with the green beans (and a decent salad) at Firebirds Grill, then last night ordered way too much food at a P.F. Chang's (first time in that chain).
Tonight more ahi at Rockfish, along with a red pepper crab bisque. Mellow and not bad. The bartender was very patient with my pain-in-the-ass request for juices mixed with soda water. And look Graham ~ the occasional white!
And some of the outdoor mall stuff.
Senegalese food and drinks with tamarind, ginger, and hibiscus. Yum.
Linda said that the first thing she thought of when she though about me was Korean, which is interesting, since last I checked I'm not Korean. Really, I have no idea how she would have come up with something like that...
Some pictures from dinner:
Yes, it was only the two of us. Yes, we ate all that, and went back for seconds, maybe thirds even. Yes, we cooked it ourselves (well, Linda did the honors). No, I do not still smell like smokey delicious Korean BBQ. We were the only ones speaking English in the restaurant, always a good sign. And the sides, oh the sides... So full.
I was completely giddy midway through the meal. Maybe it's from all the working from home, but I blame the Korean food. Linda told me that I wasn't allowed to blame my loopiness on another peoples' food, but I still say there was something special in that kimchee. Or maybe I just ate myself silly. Literally.
And if you see Linda at work tomorrow ask her if she's big in Japan...
Rumor has it that the ribs at Oola are delicious. I'll let you know in a couple hours.
