It appears that whenever I get back from a long trip I require vast quanties of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Lunch. I think there's well over 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in this one meal. An avocado mixed with 3 tomatoes (yellow and red), green garlic, juice of a meyer lemon, a little olive oil, sea salt, and pepper. The fresh juice in the back was something like 1 grapefruit, 1 blood orange, 3 tangerines (satsuma and clementine), and 2 navel oranges.
The bread and cheese were an afterthought for a little protein, but it was really yummy. I think the cheese is this one.
Oh, and I just had a mango for dessert.
There's something new where Passage used to be. I like it better.
(And yes, that sign says the artist was born in 1911 and completed this giant metal piece in 2003. Hope I can do that at 92.)

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying...
Yesterday I got strawberries, blueberries (a little too early, but not bad), peaches, apricots, and cherries. Mmmm...
When I first moved out to San Francisco (oh, almost 9 years to the day ago), I was amazed by the fresh apricots that were in season at the time. Like figs, they were fruits I had only know in a dried form before coming out here.
Proteas are cool. They're giant and exotic looking. There's a place at the market that has them, and I've always meant to get a couple. Today I did.
(Oh, that sounds kind of dirty as a title.) I used to eat these growing up, collected somewhere in the woods of New England, and steamed. That's what you get with hippie parents. Saw them at the market this weekend, haven't had them in years...
